It is part of the mountainous area of the Escambray, and their origins go back to millions of years. The area is near to the Villa of the Sacred Trinidad, one of the first ones seven been founded in Cuba by the governor Diego Velázquez. The current population, for the most part peasant, is scarce. Among other reasons, due to the growing exodus of residents of the town toward the cities, due to the incessant social development.
