  Fauna

The fauna of the western end is abundant and diverse, there are two species of wild rodents: the jutía conga (Capromys pilorides) and the jutía carabalí (Capromys prehensilis); several species of bat, numberless birds like the endemic partridge (Starnoenas cyanocephala), the woodpecker species (Colaptes fernandinae), the fly bird (Mellisuga helenae) and two restricted endemic species: the chillina(Teretistris fernandiane) and the pitirre guatíbere(Tyrannus caudifasciatus flabescens),the parrot (Amazona leucocephala leucocephala), and many other bird species. Several mammals, like deer and wild boar, and others, have been introduced in the area for cynegetic practices.
Among terrestrial reptiles, it is common to find the jicotea (Trachemis decussate), the iguana (Cydura nubila), and the snake (Epicrates angulifer) among other ophidians and lizards.
